A Vampire’s Kiss cocktail is a red Halloween drink made with vodka, berry liqueur, cranberry, and citrus. This version uses raspberry liqueur and a small splash of grenadine for a ruby color, with fresh lemon to keep the finish bright. Serve it in a chilled coupe with a raspberry garnish: the drink supplies the drama without an elaborate prop.

Vampire’s Kiss Cocktail Recipe
Makes: 1 cocktail. Prep time: about 5 minutes. Glass: coupe or martini glass. No cooking required. Measurements use a rounded bar conversion of 1 US fl oz to 30 ml; follow either unit system consistently.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz (45 ml) vodka
- 1/2 oz (15 ml) raspberry liqueur, such as Chambord
- 1 oz (30 ml) cranberry juice drink, lightly sweetened
- 1/2 oz (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 oz (7.5 ml) grenadine
- Ice, for shaking
- 1 raspberry, for garnish
- Optional: a little red decorating sugar and a lemon wedge for a half-rim
Instructions
- Chill a coupe or martini glass. If using a sugar rim, rub the lemon wedge around half the outside edge and dip that section into red decorating sugar.
- Add the vodka, raspberry liqueur, cranberry juice drink, lemon juice, and grenadine to a cocktail shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ordinary ice cubes and shake for 10–15 seconds, until the outside feels cold.
- Strain into the chilled glass. For a smoother pour, strain through a fine mesh sieve as well.
- Add a raspberry on a cocktail pick and serve immediately.
The intended balance is cranberry and lemon first, followed by a softer berry sweetness. Grenadine rounds the edges; it should not overwhelm the juice. A half-rim gives guests a choice between a sweeter sip and a clean glass edge.
What Is in a Vampire’s Kiss?
The name describes a Halloween style rather than one fixed historical specification. For example, A Couple Cooks’ Vampire’s Kiss uses vodka, Chambord, unsweetened cranberry, lemon, and grenadine, and notes that some versions include Champagne. Our house variation uses more cranberry and less liqueur and syrup; it is a still cocktail, served without sparkling wine.
Despite the martini glass, this is a fruit cocktail rather than a vodka-and-vermouth Martini. For the latter, see our Martini guide. Here, the berry liqueur is part of the recipe’s sweetness, so choose a raspberry liqueur rather than raspberry-flavored vodka as a direct replacement.
Choosing Cranberry Juice and Grenadine
Check the cranberry label before you pour. A cranberry juice drink usually includes added sweetness. Pure, unsweetened cranberry juice is much sharper, while a cranberry-and-apple blend can bring a different sweetness again. The recipe above starts with a lightly sweetened cranberry drink; it does not assume that every carton marked “100% juice” contains only cranberries.
If using pure unsweetened cranberry juice, start with the listed quantities and taste. Add simple syrup 1 teaspoon at a time if needed. If your cranberry drink is already very sweet, reduce the grenadine to 1 teaspoon or omit it. Color varies with the juice and syrup you choose; there is no need to keep adding syrup just to chase a darker glass.
Use grenadine you enjoy on its own. A pomegranate-based syrup adds a different fruit note from a brightly colored cocktail syrup. Both can work, but switching bottles may mean adjusting the lemon or syrup on the next drink.
An Eight-Serving Halloween Party Batch
For eight cocktails, combine:
- 12 oz (360 ml) vodka
- 4 oz (120 ml) raspberry liqueur
- 8 oz (240 ml) cranberry juice drink
- 4 oz (120 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 2 oz (60 ml) grenadine
This makes 30 oz (900 ml) of undiluted mix. Shake 3 3/4 oz (112.5 ml) per cocktail with ice, then strain into a chilled glass. Stir the batch before measuring each round. Shaking supplies the chill and dilution, so do not pour the undiluted mixture directly into empty coupes.
To prepare ahead, combine the vodka, liqueur, and grenadine and refrigerate in a covered bottle. Add the cranberry and freshly squeezed lemon closer to service, then keep the finished mix refrigerated between rounds. Rim glasses and prepare garnishes separately. Make one drink first so you can adjust the sweetness before multiplying the recipe.
Our freezer Martini guide explores a different batching method built around spirits and added dilution. This cranberry-and-citrus mixture belongs in the refrigerator for same-day service, rather than following the freezer Martini formula.
Variations and Substitutions
Without Chambord: Use another raspberry liqueur, starting with the same measure. Crème de cassis gives a blackcurrant variation with a darker berry character; label it as that variation rather than promising identical flavor.
With bubbles: Shake the base as usual, strain into a larger glass, and add 1 oz (30 ml) chilled sparkling wine. Stir gently once. Do not shake sparkling wine. If you prefer a simpler berry-and-bubbles drink, try our Kir Royale.
Alcohol-free cranberry cooler: Combine 2 oz (60 ml) cranberry juice drink, 1/2 oz (15 ml) lemon juice, and 1/4 oz (7.5 ml) raspberry syrup in a tall glass over ice. Top with 2 oz (60 ml) soda water and stir gently. Taste before adding more syrup. This is a separate cooler recipe: both the vodka and raspberry liqueur are left out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Vampire’s Kiss the same as a Bloody Mary?
No. This recipe is a sweet-tart berry drink; a Bloody Mary uses tomato and savory seasoning. Both suit a red Halloween menu, but they serve different tastes.
Can I serve it over ice?
Yes. Shake the drink, then strain into a small rocks glass over fresh ice. It will dilute gradually as it sits, so use a modest glass rather than stretching it into a large tumbler.
Why is my cocktail too sweet?
Check the cranberry drink, grenadine, and sugar rim first. Reduce the grenadine on the next glass, skip the rim, or add lemon in small increments. Extra vodka changes the strength more than it solves the balance.
Can I make it without grenadine?
Yes. Omit it for a less sweet version and taste before adding any other syrup. Cranberry and raspberry liqueur still give it a Halloween berry profile, although its shade may be lighter.
For a contrasting tequila drink on the same table, serve the Black Magic Margarita. The Halloween party guide explains how to organize both into an easy drinks station.
